Honest Nutrition
Its been used many times before (for good reason) but just in case you are not aware of this,
Hippocrates, one of the most outstanding figures in the history of medicine, quoted
“Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.”
Nutrition helps to prevent disease, and inappropriate nutrition leads to disease.
We are currently consulting nutritionists and evidence based medicine to bring you clear, progressive information on how best to feed your pets. This is a huge area whereby you can dramatically improve your pets health. We take nutrition very seriously. So it not until we are completely happy with our information that we will be launching our Honest Nutrition space, so please be patient.
A few recommendations that we can make at this stage are:
1. Avoid supermarket brands of pet food (they are generally low quality, contain fillers).
2. Avoid any product that contains artificial preservatives, especially known carcinogen's Ethoxyquin, BHA and BPA.
3. Ensure meat and meat meals are listed in the first three ingredients and 'cereals and grains' isn't listed in the first three ingredients.
4. Ideally choose a single source protein source, "chicken, turkey, lamb" vs "mixed meat meal" "animal by-products" "animal derivatives".
5. Don't give up on your pet who may be having uncontrolled skin disease, epilepsy, heart disease, hyperthyroidism or aggression until you can get them safely off diets containing ingredients they are allergic too, high amounts of gluten, sugars, palatability enhancers and artificial preservatives. It is sad to think but there have probably been many animal's that suffered unnecessarily or were subject to premature euthanasia due to their diet. Read about this Dog Behaviouralist's experience
